A depressed country

The article is about that Chile had a poor score in the “Better Life Index 2013”, a comparative scale calculated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), where Chile appears like one of the least happy member nations.

According to the Universidad de Concepcion’s study, roughly 31,5 percent of Chileans will endure a psychological problem or disorder at some time in their life. In the case of females, they usually suffer emotional disorders like depression or anxiety, and in the case of men, they usually endure drug addiction or alcohol abuse and dependence.

But the stress is very common in all the persons for the routine problems, nevertheless, all the people don’t suffer a real psychological problem, and there are strict criteria for these diagnoses.

There is a way to analyze the effect of these mental problems: “disability adjusted life years (DALYS)”, it is a metric system that calculates the years life lost for the persons for different health problems or disorders.
For other part, the author says that beside employees of different jobs suffer “presenteeism” effect: these are slow productivity for mental health problems.

A good point for our country is the new National Mental Health Program where the mental problems were included in the AUGE plan. But a bad point for Chile are the social inequality, it probably is the reason for the health mental problems of the Chileans.
